Where did you grow up?
A tiny village near Tamworth, Staffordshire
Who are your influences?
I was brought up with a mind boggling mix of music. From my Dad I got Bonnie Raitt, James Taylor, Shawn Colvin, Travis Tritt, BB King, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles and many more. My Mum gave me great music from the 1960’s like Lulu, the Bee Gees, The Beatles and Tom Jones. However, my musical tastes would not be a varied as they are today without my sister’s extensive record collection. She LOVES music. She is the Rain man of music knowledge and I thank her for introducing me to the likes of R.A.T.M, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Dr Dre, Jamiroquai, Fat Boy Slim, RHCP and so many more I would never fit them all on the website!
Who would you most like to play/sing with (dead or alive)?
Ani Difranco, Aretha Franklin, Justin Currie, James Taylor
Who would you most like to support on a tour?
I think I would fit in nicely with Justin Currie’s style. I would love to support Ani Difranco, Jewel or Sheryl Crow.
Who have you been compared to?
Jewel, Chrissie Hynde, Sheryl Crow, Natalie Imbruglia, Annie Lennox – all great compliments.
Where would you most like to do a gig?
’Later with Jools Holland’ is a bit of a dream – anyone know him to put me in touch?
Whats the best gig you've ever been to?
I went to see Muse recently and they were amazing. I don’t think I blinked for two hours!
Whats the strangest thing that's ever happened to you
whilst performing?
A full scale bar brawl broke out at a gig in Liverpool and I had to watch helpless from stage as my mother rescued her drink from a table before it flew across the room. Sorry mum. Oh, and the gig where our only audience members were pirates. Hook hands ‘n all.
Have you ever been in any other bands?
I was in a couple of bands or duos whilst at Uni in Liverpool. Most notably I worked with a great friend as a guitar and vocal duo called ‘Acquiesce’. Recently recorded some vocals for some dance based music, I believe this may be forging its way into commercials.
Which of the tracks do you enjoy performing the most?
I love the way the percussion and cymbals build up like thunder behind me during ‘Fishes’. ‘I Tried’ feels great as a band too – it really feels like we are working as one.
When did you first playing the guitar and writing music?
I have been writing songs since I can recall, but I only started to play guitar when I was 17. It quickly turned into an obsession! I had to soak my swollen blistered finger tips in TCP! Ouch!
